Gowing tomatoes

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are one of easiest vegetables to grow, particulary if you’re just starting out.

Below is a practical guide covering sowing times, planting, harvest, sun, soil, spacing, and hardiness.

Start indoors

Tomatoes are usually started indoors because spring temperatures are too cold outside. They can be started on something as simple as your windowsill. Thin shoots as they start to appear. This will give other plants enough room to grow.

As soon as they are big enough (15-20cm), plant them on into bigger pots.

Frost Warning

Tomatoes are frost-tender, so they must not be planted outdoors until the frost risk has passed.
