Hebes

Hebes

Hebe is an evergreen shrub that grows well. Valued for its glossy foliage and long-lasting flowers. It is usually planted as a young plant in spring (April–May) or early autumn, allowing time for roots to establish. Hebe thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-drained soil, making it suitable for borders, coastal gardens, and containers.

Hebe flowers mostly from June to September, providing colour throughout the summer months. Plants should be spaced 40–100 cm apart, depending on the variety, and watered regularly while establishing. Although generally hardy, some varieties are sensitive to frost and winter wet, so a sheltered position and good drainage are important. Light pruning after flowering helps maintain shape and encourages healthy growth.
