Marigolds / Calendula
Marigolds are bright, easy-to-grow annual flowers known for their bold orange and yellow blooms.
Marigolds are easy-to-grow annual flowers, making them a popular choice for borders and containers. Seeds are typically sown indoors from March to April or directly outdoors from late April to May, with plants transplanted outside after the last frost in May or early June. Marigolds grow best in full sun (6–8 hours daily) and prefer well-drained soil, although they are adaptable to most garden conditions.
Flowering from June to October, marigolds produce bright, long-lasting blooms that attract pollinators and can help deter pests. Plants should be spaced 20–45 cm apart depending on the variety and watered regularly while establishing, becoming fairly drought tolerant once mature.
As frost sensitive annuals, they will not survive winter, but regular deadheading will encourage continuous flowering throughout the season.
